19th Century French Oval Vendange or Wine Tasting Table in Walnut
A 19th century French vendange or wine tasting table handcrafted of solid walnut in Lyon, having an oval plank tilt-top with a beautiful, rich patina over a wedge trestle base with sledge feet and butterfly wedge support, circa 1880s. French wine tables like this were originally used in the vineyards for the workers to have lunch, and if someone happened to stop by they would be offered a glass of wine. The wineries also used them each year as connoisseurs tasted the new vintage. When not in use, this handsome vintner's table would have been folded and stored in the barn. Beloved by both wine connoisseurs and novices alike, wine tasting tables are functional and very versatile pieces that can be easily folded for transport or storage and placed against a wall with the top in a vertical position as a space saving option. Perfect for use in a wine cellar, breakfast area, apartment, or small space.
