18th Century French Country Louis XV Period Walnut Bordelaise Buffet
An 18th century French Country Louis XV period buffet handcrafted of solid walnut by talented artisans in Bordeaux, a wealthy port city that promoted trade with Africa, the West Indies, and America, circa 1740s. This lovely antique French buffet has a beveled edge rectangular plank top over two drawers having carved scrolls and original iron handles with a carved rosette between them. Below are two molded, recessed panel doors with original iron hardware that open to reveal a single shelf. The beautifully carved, shaped apron features a decorative center shell with trailing floral and foliate tendrils. Raised on short cabriole legs ending in scrolled French toes. An elegant Bordelaise buffet with a wonderful rich patina that only comes with time. Perfect for entertaining, it provides plenty of storage and a nice serving surface. The narrow depth of this versatile piece makes it perfect for a dining room, foyer, or in a den as a media cabinet.
