19th Century French Louis XVI Style Lyonnaise Bookmatched Burled Walnut Commode
A stunning and impressive early 19th century French Louis XVI style commode de chateau in neoclassical form handcrafted of walnut with a bookmatched burled walnut front and top by skilled artisans from Lyon, circa 1820s. Having a rectangular top with a bookmatched herringbone pattern and center oval banding sitting above three drawers adorned with burled bands and the original bronze pulls and lozenge shaped escutcheons typical of the period, this beautiful antique Lyonnaise commode is raised on short tapered, fluted feet and exhibits a beautiful rich color and patina.
Centuries ago, the French considered the commode to be the prime piece of furniture in the chateau. It was often placed as a showpiece in the main room of the chateau. This elegant antique French commode de chateau will be an asset to any room it is placed in. The beauty is in the refinement of the details of this exceptional chest of drawers that complements both contemporary and traditional interiors, and the scale of the drawers ensures an ample amount of storage wherever this chest of drawers is placed.
