A rare and exceptional 19th century set of 10 majolica glazed French faïence barbotine artichoke and asparagus plates complete with oval shaped master server or platter, Orchies, circa 1880s. In the Art Nouveau style, the service captures our attention with its beautiful colors, showing the stylized leaves of both plants, with two artichoke globes and deep purple tipped asparagus on a white background. Made to serve fresh asparagus and/or artichokes, the plate and platter both have a scalloped rim and a deep well for butter, hollandaise, or any dipping sauce. Heavy weight with footed versos. A fantastic addition to any collection.
