19th Century French Louis Philippe Style Chest of Drawers or Commode with Bookmatched Walnut Front and Black Marble Top
A handsome 19th century French Louis Philippe style four-drawer commode, circa 1880s, from Avignon, a city in southeastern France’s Provence region that's set on the Rhône River and was the seat of the Catholic popes from 1309 to 1377. This antique French chest of drawers is handcrafted of meticulously bookmatched walnut and complimented by its original black marble top sitting above a secret locking doucine drawer with 3 full drawers below that are each adorned with two round brass pulls and and a center brass escutcheon. Raised on shaped pistolet feet. Louis Philippe style is refined, linear and restrained. The strong, bold lines and subtle curves of Louis Philippe pieces make them an easy fit into an existing home, mixing flawlessly with other periods and styles. The scale of the drawers ensures an ample amount of storage wherever this versatile chest is placed.
