Mid-19th Century French Louis Philippe Period Walnut Buffet à Deux Corps
A mid-19th century French Louis Philippe period buffet à deux corps or bibliothèque handcrafted of walnut by talented artisans near the city of Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage site because of its abundance of Roman and Romanesque architecture, circa 1830s. Having a doucine crown over a pair of original glazed paned glass doors with neoclassical style brass urn escutcheons, this handsome piece opens to reveal three shelves for displaying china, glassware, a priceless book collection, family heirlooms, or sports and hunting trophies just as the French did hundreds of years ago. The lower buffet cabinet features two long drawers with Romanesque style brass pulls flanking a small center drawer with a brass Beaux Arts wreath escutcheon above a pair of paneled doors with a single shelf behind closed doors. Raised on pistolet feet. This striking cabinet is the perfect piece to add height in a room.
