Antique French Louis XVI style bouillotte side table handcrafted of mahogany near Paris, circa 1900. Having a white Carrara marble top surrounded by a pierced gilt brass gallery, this handsome French side table features an apron that has a single drawer. Raised on tapered fluted legs ending in brass sabots.Â
Bouillotte tables such as this were inspired by the gambling card game of the same name. Bouillotte was so popular in France during the 18th century that a special table was created for play. Bouillotte is said to be one of the card games that led to the development of poker. Like poker, chips were used as wagers during the game.
