- Antique 19th Century French Cruche Orjol or Water Jug with Brown or Caramel Glaze
Antique 19th Century French Cruche Orjol or Water Jug with Brown or Caramel Glaze
19th century French water jug or cruche orjol from the Languedoc region in southwest France, having a hard-to-find luminous brown or caramel glaze and two beautifully arched handles that rise above the opening with the spout formed into the handle on one side, circa 1890s. This French orjol is fully glazed unlike other cruches or gargoulettes and was a specialty of the region, now contained in the modern-day region of Occitanie. The beautiful patina of this antique water pitcher has slowly developed with the passage of time. The imperfections are a testament to its utilitarian history and daily use at one time. Exceptionally decorative, this classic French water jug is highly collectible because of its colorful and rare glaze and a delight for any Country French interior. We have a large selection of antique French pottery. Contact us for more pictures or information.
