Exceptional Early 19th Century French Empire Period Chateau Enfilade in Walnut with Bookmatched Doors
A very fine 19th century French Empire period enfilade buffet handcrafted of solid old growth French walnut by very talented artisans in Lyon for a wealthy chateau owner in Beaujolais, circa 1810. This exquisite 10-foot long Lyonnais buffet, which would have been used in a grand banquet hall, features a thick rectangular plank top sitting above three doucine drawers over four bookmatched panel doors flanked by hand carved doric columns. Two columns flank the two central doors with the remaining columns placed on each side of the single doors to achieve perfect symmetry. The doors open to reveal a single shelf the length of the buffet that provides excellent storage. The sides are simply adorned with recessed panels. Raised on tall carved block feet. Grand in scale and all original with all working locks and keys. The wonderful proportions and the rich character of the wood with its beautiful waxed patina makes this French enfilade a great focal point that will bring a distinguished presence to any room, from a dining room to a foyer or living room.
