Early 19th Century French Painted Louis XVI Style Three-Drawer Commode
Early 19th century French Louis XVI style three-drawer commode or chest of drawers handcrafted near Nimes in the South of France, having a beautifully distressed off white painted finish, circa 1820s. This classic French Louis XVI chest features a rectangular plank top above a case of three full-sized drawers having the original drop bail brass handles and escutcheons. Raised on short tapered legs. Closets were still considered a luxury at the time and were not moveable like small pieces of furniture so commodes such as this were essential pieces of furniture. The scale of the drawers ensures an ample amount of storage wherever this chest is placed and the clean straight lines complement both contemporary and traditional interiors. A wonderful choice for any home, from a bedroom to a living room.
