Rare 19th Century French Charles X Period Tilt-Top Wine Tasting or Vendange Table with Leather Top
Rare 19th century French Charles X period tilt-top vendange or wine tasting table handcrafted of old growth oak near Beaujolais, having the original circular brown and gilded tooled leather top with richly patinated oak border, circa 1820s. Raised on a trestle base with sledge feet and butterfly wedge support. Most French vendage tables were made to serve workers lunch in the vineyards and then folded and stored in the barn when not in use. Tables such this one with the leather top are rare and were not used in the fields but used for wine tastings in the cellars of chateaus and wineries. It would be brought out when it was time to taste and then stored away when not in use. Beloved by both wine connoisseurs and novices alike, wine tasting tables are functional and very versatile pieces of furniture that can be easily folded for transport or storage and placed against a wall with the top in a vertical position as a space saving option. Perfect for use in a wine cellar, breakfast area, apartment, or small space.
