Antique French Louis XIII Style Walnut Cabinet de Confiture or Jam Holder
Antique French Louis XIII style confiturier or jam cabinet handcrafted in Brittany of solid walnut with a rectangular beveled edge top over a single drawer above a raised panel door featuring typical Louis XIII style diamante carvings that opens to reveal a single shelf, circa 1920s. Raised on bun feet.
Confituriers were used to store jams and marmalades. They are extremely versatile cabinets because they are usually smaller than a buffet or chest of drawers and can be used for storage in any room. They can easily be converted into powder room vanities, used as nightstands and even retrofitted with small refrigeration units for bar areas or wine rooms. They make great storage for extra shoes, boots, and keys near the back door.
