Mid-19th Century French Napoleon III Period Faux Bamboo Giltwood Mirror
A French Napoleon III period giltwood faux bamboo mirror made in the chinoiserie style that came into fashion in the mid-19th century, having an intricately carved and pierced crown depicting a floral wreath with berried laurel branches joined together by a bow tied ribbon and richly carved floral garlands draping on each side, circa 1850s. The corners having floral and foliate carvings. Red oxidation shows through the beautiful water gilded patina that is original to the piece. The unique appearance of the original antique mirror glass adds charm and character that is impossible to achieve with new mirror glass. This stunning French mirror is an exceptional example of 19th century French decorative art.
