Antique French Louis XVI Style Mahogany Bouillotte Side Table
Classic Louis XVI style bouillotte side table in mahogany with a Carrara marble top surrounded by a pierced brass gallery, circa early 1900s. The apron has a drawer for cards and chips and two slides with embossed leather tops that were originally used to place a candle on for lighting. Raised on tapered fluted legs ending in brass sabots.
This handsome Louis XVI style bouillotte table was inspired by the gambling card game of the same name. Bouillotte was so popular in France during the 18th century that a special table was created for play. Bouillotte is said to be one of the card games that led to the development of poker. Like poker, chips were used as wagers during the game.
