Original Framed Vintage French Travel Poster "Chargeurs Reunis Vers la France", 1950s
A wonderful framed original French advertising poster by artist Albert Brenet for the maritime company Chargeurs Réunis, circa 1950s. This bright and lively French travel poster features three stylish ladies and a French poodle as they stroll along the streets of Paris. In the background is the Café de la Paix across from the famous Opera Garnier. The poster reads vers la France (towards or to France) in the upper right corner and COMPAGNIE MARITIME DES CHARGEURS REUNIS in the lower left corner. Printed in the 1950s, this beautiful poster encouraged travel to France by showing off the architecture of Paris, a famous outdoor café, and of course, Parisian fashion.
French artist Albert Brenet was the official artist for the French Navy and Air Force starting in 1936. He traveled by sea often, always carrying his sketchbook and documenting scenes both on the water and of life on board. He created many commemorative and promotional posters. This poster was created for Chargeurs Réunis (United Shippers) which transported cargo and passengers and was at one point the third-largest shipping company in Europe.
