Monumental 18th Century French Directoire Period Bleached Walnut Placard or Wardrobe
Monumental 18th century French Directoire period placard or wardrobe handcrafted of solid walnut by skilled artisans in the South of France near Arles, circa 1780s. Custom-made for a country chateau, this walnut placard has been bleached or washed to a natural finish, retaining its beautiful patina. It features a rectangular moulded cornice above three paneled doors flanked by pilasters, all above two drawers resting on a plinth base. The interior opens to reveal plenty of shelving and storage. The Directoire style is admired for its simplicity of architecture and classic look. This large, handsome cupboard has clean lines, a wonderful patina and a certain je ne sais quoi that will suit most styles of decor from traditional to contemporary. Perfect for use as a pantry, locker, closet, or wardrobe. It can stand alone or be built in to a remodel or new construction.
