19th Century French Country carved butcher block or billot de boucher handcrafted of beech wood by talented artisans in the Normandy region near Bayeux, circa 1880s. The thick, well worn butcher block made of mixed woods has corner braces in polished steel for extra support, sits on a base with turned and fluted carved legs decorated with raised diamond motifs, a large center drawer for cleavers and knives, and a carved scalloped apron on three sides. There is a newly mounted iron knife slot mounted on one side. The carving station surface is shaped from generations of use. This charming work table will add a touch of French Country charm to any kitchen.
