Set of six majolica oyster plates from the famous old pottery making
village of Vallauris, located in the South of France. Circa 1950s. These classic Provençal design oyster plates with scalloped edges and six compartments for oysters and one for the lemon or mignonette, are an
excellent example of French faïence. The small scenic town of Vallauris
became world famous when Picasso lived there in the 1940s and 1950s and
majolica from Vallauris is celebrated for its beautiful glazes and
extraordinary shapes. The brown base glaze of the plates, overlaid
with a lovely blue foam, surrounds the brilliant yellow central lemon
well and flaming orange oyster wells. Marked on the back.
