The French club chair, known as the "fauteuil conformable" (comfortable armchair) became popular during the 1920s. Men enjoyed good conversation, cocktails and fine cigars as they relaxed in plush leather chairs like these found in gentlemen's clubs across France and England. Over time, people started referring to this popular armchair simply as a club chair and the original round form evolved into the moustache back with its elegant arched curves. The leather, sinuous lines, low seat and snug fit were attractive and indicative of absolute comfort. It was an essential part of 20th century luxury furniture and its longevity and refinement are still very much in demand today. Dimensions:
