Monumental French Louis Philippe period placard or wardrobe handcrafted of cherrywood by skilled artisans of Mont Saint-Michel, an island commune in Normandy. Custom-made for a nearby manor, having five paneled doors above three drawers, resting on a plinth base. The interior opens to reveal plenty of shelving and storage. This large, handsome cupboard accentuates the simple lines with little ornamentation that characterize all Louis Philippe pieces. Perfect for use as a pantry, locker, closet, or wardrobe. It can stand alone or be built in to a remodel or new construction. Two separate pieces.
Louis Philippe period furniture, less ornate than other styles, but still elegant in an unpretentious fashion, is a true expression of the conflicts during the time when the regal authority was restored with restrained elegance. Although the elaborate and carved elements of past French styles were abandoned, the craftsmanship was still superb. Louis Philippe period furniture was devised to satisfy a busy, but coddled bourgeoisie's desire for comfort and to give them a sense of social legitimacy. Dimensions:
