A fine French Empire period bonnetiere, handcrafted of walnut by skilled artisans from the Lyon region of France during the First Empire of Napoleon. The paneled door with carved diamond points and ormolu adornments is flanked by columns fitted with bronze doré mounts and opens to reveal four interior shelves. This rare piece, with its classic straight lines and decorative motifs typical of the Empire period, is a fine example of a French style intended to clearly express the imperial majesty of Napoleonic France.
