Item # LFALO1165
A fine antique French Renaissance Revival barley twist desk with it's original leather blotter. This hand carved solid walnut writing table features a beveled edge top with a visible yet subtle grain above three locking drawers with beautifully carved lion face corner accents. Resting on four carved and turned legs joined together by a barley twist stretcher with finial. A fine showcase of craftsmanship, fully finished on all sides, with a wonderful patina.
In France, the twisted column or torsade was a major element in furniture design during the reign of King Louis XIII. Beginning in the late 18th century, and lasting for nearly one hundred years, there was a revival of interest in Gothic and Renaissance style.
