Saint-Malo, home of the French corsairs, was a flourishing port during the 17th and 18th centuries. A shipowner family would often own a private mansion in the city and a manor in the surrounding country. The interiors of these manor houses were furnished by local cabinetmakers and artisans. A Saint-Malo piece of furniture was typically made in mahogany, however, the oldest pieces were made of oak. Splendid antique Louis XV style Country French armoire handcrafted by the master artisans of Saint-Malo, a port city in Brittany. Circa early 1800s. Stepped cornice with corbels and carved frieze atop half round corner posts that flank two doors with raised center panels featuring inlaid compass stars. Spacious single drawer below. Three interior shelves. Dimensions:
