Item # LFA258
Charming antique French winnowing basket with wooden handles and initials FG. Circa early 1800s. Originally used to separate the wheat from the chaff. Peasant farmers would hold the flat side of the basket against their body and toss the wheat into the air. The chaff would fly away and the grain would fall back into the basket. "Winnowing the chaff" is a common expression. Ideal to use as a wall hanging, for food presentation or display.
