Item # LFALO1766
A handsome French Louis Philippe period commode of solid walnut with a bookmatched front. Featuring a Saint Anne ogee marble top above a long doucine drawer with three fitted drawers below, resting upon pistolet feet. The three lower drawers have a pair of circular pulls with a center brass chevron escutcheon that identifies the keyhole. Not only decorative, the escutcheons protect the wood from the iron key when it is inserted into the lock. This handsome commode, handcrafted by skilled artisans in the Pays de la Loire region, retains its beautiful rich, color and patina and has a fresh French polish.
Although the elaborate and carved elements of past French styles were abandoned during the Louis Philippe period, the craftsmanship was still superb. It just avoided the pomp and lavish excesses of previous styles. The strong, bold lines and subtle curves of Louis Philippe pieces make them an easy fit into an existing home. They mix with other periods and styles flawlessly.
