19TH CENTURY FRENCH LOUIS XIII STYLE DOUBLE BARLEY TWIST WRITING TABLE OR DESK
$4,275.00
Item # LFALO1658
A fine 19th century French Louis XIII style writing table or bureau plat, having a rectangular top with a gadrooned beveled edge above a deep apron with a single drawer. This hand-carved solid oak desk is raised on four intricately hand-turned double barley twist legs connected through rectangular block joints featuring carved rosettes to a cross stretcher of the same style. The cross stretcher in particular catches all the attention with its shaped and carved finial, creating a sense of balance and harmony. In France, the twisted column or torsade was a major element in furniture design during the reign of King Louis XIII. Placed anywhere in a home, from a foyer to a bedroom or living room, this lovely French table will bring a charming touch to any décor. It's a fine showcase of craftsmanship, fully finished on all sides, with a wonderful patina.
