A very fine early 19th century French period Empire enfilade buffet handcrafted of burled chestnut near the Ile de France region, having three drawers over three doors flanked by support columns with original gilt-bronze capitals. Each column ending in gilt-bronze mounts above half-bun feet. The interior has a single shelf. The narrow depth of this versatile enfilade makes it perfect for a foyer, hallway, dining room, or as a TV cabinet or console.
The Empire period was a Neoclassic French style intended to clearly express the imperial majesty of Napoleonic France. Balance and symmetry were foremost as they had been during the end of the 18th century, with columns and pilasters common, and surfaces flat and corners sharp. It was a period inspired by the decorative motifs and characteristics of Greco-Roman models. The elegant simplicity of the Empire style allows this exceptional piece to mix well with modern and traditional interiors. Dimensions:
