Rustic 18th century Louis XIV style buffet de chasse (hunt buffet) handcrafted in walnut by skilled artisans of the Loire Valley with original rouge marble top over two paneled doors having a single interior shelf. Circa 1760s.
Buffet de chasse were originally made for French hunting lodges or chateaus and were used to present game after the hunt. Various forms of the hunt were often depicted in the furniture, tapestries and paintings over the centuries. The hunt was considered to be a pastime of Royalty and the privileged class. Dimensions:
