18th century Louis XV period 8-day comtoise clock with classic solid walnut French potbellied or violin case housing a freestanding weight-driven pendulum with two key holes and a winding key. From the South of France, this pretty, very graceful longcase clock was hand crafted with a chapeau de gendarme cornice over the dial case and houses an enameled dial with Roman numerals and stamped brass hands. It features the clock maker's name and the town where it was made or sold, Abrets. The pediment fronton of thin repousse depicts a pair planting and watering in the garden in front of a well. Resting on a plinth base. Completely original, in excellent condition.
