Large 19th Century Spanish Terracotta Olive Jar with Iron Stand, Signed
A large 19th century Spanish terracotta olive jar, circa 1880s, having two circular striations handmade in the Basque Country, located in the western Pyrenees, straddling the border between France and Spain on the coast of the Bay of Biscay, long celebrated for its artisanal ceramics. This handmade earthenware container, signed German G Mendieta, was used to preserve olive oil and has a beautiful patina that only years of use and the weather can create. Having a new tripod iron stand, this beautiful garden pot is a truly unique and beautiful example of Spanish pottery. A perfect choice for the garden or use as a decorative vessel indoors. A wonderful addition to any pottery collection, it will bring a Mediterranean flavor to your garden or terrace or use as a decorative planter or jardiniere indoors.
