A rare 19th century French Empire period tilt-top vintner's table or wine tasting table handcrafted of solid walnut in Bordeaux, circa 1810, featuring a round tilt-top supported by a trestle base with carved tapered columns atop sledge feet with a butterfly wedge, turning to allow the top to fold down when needed. Most French vintner's tables were originally found and used in wine cellars throughout France. The tilt tops offered easy transportation to the vineyard for lunch or a way to tuck the table against the wall in a small wine cave. Beloved by both wine connoisseurs and novices alike, wine tasting tables are functional and very versatile pieces of furniture that can be easily folded for transport or storage and placed against a wall with the top in a vertical position as a space saving option.
