19th Century French Empire Period Three-Drawer Bleached Walnut Commode with Bookmatched Front
A striking 19th century French Empire period commode handcrafted of walnut and flame walnut, circa 1810. Having a bookmatched walnut front, this handsome bleached chest of drawers has a hidden apron drawer above two full size drawers with columns featuring decorative brass capitals and bases flanking the bank of drawers. Original bronze hardware adorns the drawers. Raised on tall carved block feet. Strong and masculine, Empire furniture has a definitive geometric shape with level surfaces and distinct angles. Decorations were symmetrical, and motifs mirrored one another on each side. The scale of the drawers ensures an ample amount of storage wherever this beautiful antique French chest is placed.
