Early 20th Century French Louis XVI Style Mahogany Bouillotte Side Table
An early 20th century French Louis XVI style bouillotte side table handcrafted of mahogany near Bordeaux, circa 1900. Having a Saint Anne gray with white veining marble top surrounded by a pierced gilt brass gallery, this classic French side table features an apron that has two drawers for cards and chips and four embossed leather top slides or tirettes that were originally used to place a candle on for lighting. Raised on tapered fluted legs ending in brass sabots.Â
Bouillotte tables such as this were inspired by the gambling card game of the same name. Bouillotte was so popular in France during the 18th century that a special table was created for play.
