18th Century French Directoire Period Walnut Table de Drapier or Draper Table
A fine late 18th century French Directoire period table de drapier from a draper's atelier in Lyon, circa 1790s. Handcrafted of solid walnut, this beautiful draper table, with its elegantly carved legs, was a common feature in the cloth merchant’s shops. Featuring an abundant surface area that would have been used by seamstresses to measure and cut fabrics and textiles with two drawers below for storing scissors, shears, snips, and other tools of the trade. The large shelf on the bottom provided space for storing extra fabrics. A superb French draper's table with a rich, warm patina that will add charm and character to any room. Perfect as a kitchen island or console table, it will also work well in a foyer, restaurant, or as a store display.
