Item # LFALO1114
Handsome French Louis Philippe style bonnetiere handcrafted of cherrywood with a doucine cornice and book matched front. Raised on bracket feet ending in sabots. Circa 1880s.
This large bonnetiere is less ornate than other styles, but is still elegant in an unpretentious fashion. Louis Philippe period antique furniture is a true expression of the conflicts in the time when the regal authority was restored with restrained elegance. Although the elaborate and carved elements of past French styles were abandoned during the Louis Philippe period, the craftsmanship was still superb. It just avoided the pomp and lavish excesses of previous styles.
