EARLY 19TH CENTURY FRAMED FRENCH COW PAINTING, "VACHERIE D'ESCOVILLE"
Item # LFALO983
Exquisite antique French oil on canvas pastoral scene of cows, circa early 1800s. This serene painting depicts three cows at the forefront of a pasture and two in the back ground on each side. They all differ in color from each other, allowing the artist's play on light to define their images. The green pasture has tiny wildflowers with a grove of trees or forest in the background. The artwork sits in a beautifully carved giltwood frame having foliate and floral motifs with rocaille in the corners and a central carved cartouche with the words Vacherie d'Escoville inscribed. A painting like this and of this quality would have been commissioned for a wealthy land owner. It was acquired from a French chateau in Normandie. Unsigned. Excellent condition with wonderful colors.
