French Period Louis Philippe Bleached Commode with Bookmatched Front and Marble Top
A five-drawer French period Louis Philippe bleached commode, circa 1840s. Constructed of meticulously bookmatched burled walnut, this handsome commode is complimented by its original Saint Anne marble top with an ogee edge and canted corners that overhangs the body to balance the proportion of the plinth base and sabot feet and emphasizes the geometric quality of the style created during the reign of King Louis Philippe (1830-1848). The four upper drawers each have a center brass escutcheon that identifies the keyhole. Not only decorative, the escutcheons protect the wood from the iron keys. There is also a secret hidden apron drawer. The scale of the drawers ensures an ample amount of storage wherever this chest is placed.
Louis Philippe style is refined, linear and restrained. The strong, bold lines of Louis Philippe pieces make them an easy fit into an existing home, mixing flawlessly with other periods and styles.
